Something You Need to Know About Multi-Color Silkscreen Printing

1. Features

Compared with gravure printing and offset printing, there are some features of multi-color silkscreen printing.

It has very strong expressiveness, bright colors and good 3D sense.

It has light resistance and drug resistance. It's popular because of durability, long-lasting use, and no fading, especially when printing on plastic substrates.

Low cost.

In addition to the above advantages, muti-color silkscreen printing has its disadvantage, that is, the production process is not easy.

2. Arrangement of color sequence

Generally speaking, the color sequence of this silkscreen printing is yellow, cyan, magenta and black. Considering the process requirements, the color sequence can also be arranged as cyan, magenta, yellow and black. Due to the different shapes of substrates (flat and curved surfaces) and different properties of substrate materials, the color sequence can also be black, yellow, cyan, magenta.

The arrangement of color sequence has an important relationship to the appearance of original color. To ensure that the color of the copy is not distorted, you must know how to use ink. Long-term practice is also important.

There are two factors to determine the color sequence of silkscreen printing. One is the ink transparency on substrate. It is the main factor. In silkscreen printing, new colors of ink are produced by mixing or overlapping of various colors.

If the ink transparency on substrate is poor, the first color will be covered when the second color is printed, and these two cannot be combined to generate a new color.

The second factor is the different perception of human eyes to various colors. Human eyes are most sensitive to magenta, followed by cyan, and least sensitive to yellow. Therefore, people often cannot distinguish the enlargement or reduction, loss, and change in the amount of yellow ink.

3. Color of mesh and making screen

Meshes are available in white, yellow, amber, red, etc.. The color of mesh has a great influence on making screen.

Colored mesh can prevent light diffusion when printing, while white mesh will cause obvious diffusion. What's the reason? Photosensitive materials have a large absorption peak in the ultraviolet region, and white mesh reflects white light when illuminated by light sources, which has an impact on photosensitive materials.

When irradiation light passes through the transparent part of the positive film, and reaches the emulsion coating, there will be floating reflection, that is, halo. It will occur when light contacts the white screen.

If you use a colored screen, this won't happen. Because the colored screen can absorb part of the irradiation light, thereby reducing the reflection intensity of the light. The colored screen reflects colored light, which is inactive light, so it will not affect the sensitivity of the selected material, especially when printing fine things, the color of screen is particularly important.

Notes

You need solid, non-deformed metal screen frame during multi-color silkscreen printing. Weak wooden frame is easy to be skewed or deformed during printing. It lows down quality of silkscreen printing.

If the deformation is serious, the screen cannot be used, thus affecting the printing quality. Therefore, solid metal screen frame is necessary.

The hardness of the scraper is generally 70 degrees of Shore hardness. The scraper edge should have high precision. Because of the moderate hardness, it is conducive to meeting the printing requirements, improving the printing precision and ensuring the printing quality.

Try to use ink with high viscosity. Otherwise, it will thicken and enlarge the lines of the pattern and text due to ink seepage and diffusion.
