Membrane Switch: Water Resistance And Structure

Some membrane switches have excellent waterproofness. They are also good in the resistance of oil-proof, dust-proof, and moisture-proof. They work well in wet environments.

 

When talking about waterproof membrane switch, the conductive circuit is covered with a waterproof insulating layer so that the circuit does not come into direct contact with the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer.

 

In addition, there are no through holes within 5m/m of the conductive circuit, and the interlayer vents are not connected to the outside world. Then it improves the decrease in the insulation resistance of the circuit caused by the moisture absorption of the adhesive. It also improves the situation of water impregnation into the inside of the circuit. Therefore, waterproof membrane switch has the advantages of good waterproofness and moisture-proof performance.

 

Therefore, membrane switch with strong water resistance has the following features. it is made of high-performance waterproof materials, so that the product can be used in 95% of humid environments. There is no need to worry about rain at all, and it can be used in harsh environments.


 

Structure of membrane switch

 

1. Planar non-tactile membrane switch: long service life, but no tactile feeling.

 

2. Embossing type (convex touch): It has a good touch, but the service life is not that long.

 

3. Convex frame non-tactile type: beautiful surface, three-dimensional shape, but no touch.

 

4. Convex frame touch type: beautiful surface, three-dimensional shape, and tactile feeling.

 

5. Metal dome type: It has good feel. The metal dome plays both a tactile and circuit function. The shrapnel is mainly used in membrane switches of rigid boards such as printed circuit boards, giving full play to the conduction, rebound, and hand feel.

 

Metal dome in flexible membrane switch provides tactile feedback, which is generally unnecessary. The disadvantage is that the gap between the stroke of the metal dome and the stroke between the switch contacts causes the metal dome and membrane switch to be out of synchronization. That is to say, when the shrapnel moves, the contacts may not move together.

 

Moreover, in flexible circuit boards, the movement of the elastic pieces often exceeds the horizontal plane of the bottom. When the operating force is too large, the elastic pieces are easily deformed in the opposite direction. In fact, the key feel can be ensured by drumming the circuit layer.

 

6. Luminous type: Be sure to open the bottom rubber mold.

 

a) The LED circuit and the lower circuit are on the same layer: the structure is simple, but the LED window must be convex. Otherwise, the LED light will lift up the panel. It is suitable to use small LED lights with a short height or where the number of LED lights is small.

 

b) The LED circuit and the lower circuit are on different layers: the structure is complex, but the LED window does not have to be convex, which is suitable for situations where two-color LED lights or a large number of LED lights are used. A punching mold and a bottom rubber mold are required.

 

7. Half-fold type: This can prevent cross tracks, and does not require drilling holes so that the conductive surface can be downward. The defect of this structure is that the circuit is easily broken at the half-fold.

 

8. Waterproof type of inner and outer frames: The outer frame is a closed frame with no lining. It protects the inner frame and prevents water vapor from entering the casing from the outlet groove.
