Nowadays, we are all aware of environmental friendliness and sustainable development. Starting green projects, developing green products, and adapting to environmental protection requirements have become top priorities. With the emergence of various green products, needs of better green packaging, more suitable green printing materials and corresponding printing methods are inevitably required.
With the development of high-speed and automation of printing machinery, technological progress has also brought about revolutionary changes in printing ink. People are increasingly concerned about ecological pollution. Eco-friendly inks such as vegetable inks and water-based inks are becoming popular. Lithographic offset printing inks occupy the large market share. The offset printing has so many benefits compared to other processes.
Flexographic printing adapts to the requirements of environmental protection and green packaging. It widely uses non-toxic, residual solvent-free, non-environmentally polluting water-based inks, UV inks and alcohol-soluble inks. The policies and regulations in the United States have very strict environmental protection and health requirements.
Many products can only be printed with flexographic printing or can only be printed with water-based inks and UV inks. The application of photosensitive resin flexographic plates not only significantly improves the quality of flexographic printing, but also limits the application of solvent-based inks in flexographic printing, promotes the development of green printing materials, and makes the effect to reduce environmental pollution.
Water-based ink is a world-recognized eco-friendly printing material. It is also the only non-toxic ink among all printing inks currently approved by the American Food and Drug Association.
What's the biggest feature of water-based ink? It significantly reduces VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions, thereby preventing air pollution, improving the printing operating environment, and benefiting workers' health. It can completely eliminate the harm to the human body and the pollution of packaging products caused by certain toxic and harmful substances in solvent-based inks, improve the overall environmental quality, and is especially suitable for packaging and printing products with strict hygienic conditions such as food, beverages, and medicines.
In addition, it not only reduces fire hazards and dangers caused by static electricity and flammable solvents, but also reduces the residual solvent odor on the printed surface.
UV radiation curing products (including UV inks and UV varnishes) are known as "new green industrial technologies for the 21st century" for the high efficiency, energy saving, no solvent emissions, no environmental pollution, and excellent product performance. Over the past decade, the application of UV inks and UV varnishes has become increasingly popular.
UV ink is not only the safe ink that does not contain solvents, but also has many excellent properties, such as not easy to paste, clear dots, bright and bright ink color, excellent chemical resistance, low consumption, etc.
Alcohol-soluble ink is also good and harmless.
Soy ink came into being at a time when petroleum products were severely threatened by shortages of imported oil. Although soybeans have become the biggest selling point on the market for a new generation of green printing inks, this ink is not entirely made from soybeans. Combining soybean oil with linseed oil and tung oil in a certain proportion can make the ink dry faster.
As long as the refined soybean oil content in the ink reaches 20%, it can be called "soy ink". But all inks - including vegetable and soy inks - will produce certain VOCs during the drying process because they contain more or less petroleum or oil-based pigments.
Without the petroleum component, the ink would have to be dried at a higher temperature, and the printing plant would consume more energy.
