Development of Human-Computer Interaction Design

Human-Computer Interaction Technique refers to the technology of realizing the dialogue between human and computer in an effective way through computer input and output devices.

The machine provides a large amount of relevant information and prompts for instructions through output or display devices. People input relevant information and prompts for instructions through input devices. Human-computer interaction technology is one of the important contents in computer user interface design. It is closely related to the subject areas of cognition, ergonomics, psychology and so on.

So, what is the development history of human-computer interaction design? Let's talk about it.

In 1959, American scholar B. Shackel started from how people reduce fatigue when manipulating computers. He proposed a paper on the ergonomics of computer console design, which is considered to be the first document on the human-machine interface. In 1960, Liklider JCK first proposed the concept of Human-Computer Close Symbiosis, which is regarded as the enlightenment point of view of human-computer interface. In 1969, the first International Conference on Man-Machine Systems was held at the University of Cambridge, England. The first professional journal, International Man-Machine Studies, was launched in the same year. Let's say this, 1969 was a milestone in the development history of human-computer interface.

In 1970, two HCI research centers were established. One is the HUSAT Research Center of Loughbocough University in the UK. The other one is the Palo Alto Research Center of Xerox Corporation in the United States.

From 1970 to 1973, four monographs on computer-related ergonomics were published, which pointed out the direction for the development of human-computer interaction interface.

In the early 1980s, the academic community published six monographs successively, summarizing the latest human-computer interaction research results. The subject of human-computer interaction has gradually formed its own theoretical system and framework of practical categories.

In terms of theoretical system, it is independent from ergonomics and puts more emphasis on the theoretical guidance of cognitive psychology and some humanities of behavior and sociology.

In terms of practical scope, it is extended from human-computer interface (human-computer interface), emphasizing the interaction between computer and human feedback. The term human-computer interface was replaced by human-computer interaction. The I in HCI has also changed from Interface to Interaction.

Since the late 1990s, with the rapid development and popularization of high-speed processing chips, multimedia technology and Internet Web technology, research on human-computer interaction has focused on intelligent interaction, multi-modal (multi-channel)-multimedia interaction, virtual Interaction and human-computer collaborative interaction. That is (human-centered) human-computer interaction technology.
