Acrylic is an important plastic polymer material that was developed early. It has good transparency, chemical stability and weather resistance. It is easy to dye, easy to process, and has good look. Acrylic is widely used in the construction industry.
Application
There are some kinds of acrylic products, such as acrylic panels, acrylic plastic pellets, acrylic light boxes, signs, acrylic bathtubs, acrylic artificial marble, acrylic resin, acrylic (latex) paint, acrylic adhesives, etc.. The most popular acrylic products are made of raw materials such as acrylic pellets, sheets or resins through various processing methods.
Features
1. Acrylic has crystal-like transparency, with a light transmittance of over 92%. Acrylic with colorful dyes has a good look.
2. Acrylic sheet has excellent weather resistance, high surface hardness and surface gloss, and good high temperature performance.
3. Acrylic sheets have good processing properties. They can be processed by thermoforming or machining.
4. Transparent acrylic sheet has a transmittance comparable to that of glass, but its density is only half of that of glass. Acrylic is not as fragile as glass, and even if it is broken, it will not form sharp fragments like glass.
5. The wear resistance of acrylic sheet is close to that of aluminum. It has good stability, and is resistant to corrosion from a variety of chemicals.
6. Acrylic sheets have good printability and sprayability. Appropriate printing and spraying can give acrylic products ideal surface decorative effects.
7. Acrylic does not spontaneously ignite, but it is flammable, and does not have self-extinguishing properties.
Environmental performance
Is acrylic toxic?
Acrylic itself is non-toxic, and the smell it emits is also non-toxic to human body. However, in certain environments, it becomes 'toxic' because the melting point of acrylic is 130-140°C. At room temperature, acrylic will not react chemically, but at high temperatures, acrylic will react chemically to produce toxic gases.
If acrylic is burned at high temperatures, it will emit toxic things. When laser engraves and cuts acrylic, it emits a strong smell that can make people dizzy. So it is recommended that you turn on exhaust fans.
Is acrylic powder toxic?
Acrylic dust, like ordinary plastics, is a solid hazardous substance. It has the common features of dust hazards to the human body, so acrylic dust is toxic. You should wear masks during the acrylic processing, especially when polishing acrylic.
Is the glue used to bond acrylic toxic?
We always use organic glass glue, whose chemical components mainly include glacial acetic acid, chloroform, and phenol. In addition to glacial acetic acid, which is low in toxicity, chloroform and phenol are both highly toxic . Therefore, acrylic glue is toxic, and very harmful to the human body. However, a finished acrylic product uses very little acrylic glue, so the toxicity is very low.
Is inferior acrylic toxic?
High quality acrylic is non-toxic, but some manufacturers use recycled plastic waste to save costs. These inferior materials have bad things, such as resin, which will volatilize during the processing, and become harmful gases.
