Acrylic sheets should be stored flat. Put products of the same size together to a stack, or put smaller ones on top and larger ones on the bottom. If long-term storage is required, the stacking height should not exceed 500mm. Here are some other tips for transporting and storing acrylic sheets.
1. Moisture resistance
Acrylic sheets are absorbent, they are easily deformed in high humidity environments. They should be shipped without removing the edge tape as much as possible. If the tape must be removed, acrylic sheets should be wrapped with PE film to prevent moisture absorption. They should not be directly exposed to moisture during storage.
2. Sun protection / high temperature resistance
Acrylic is easy to deform at high temperatures. It is not advisable to expose sheets directly to sunlight or heat sources. The ambient temperature during transportation should not be higher than 70°C. Long-term storage should be below 40°C in a ventilated, dry and sunlight-proof environment.
The thermal expansion coefficient of acrylic sheets is very large, so we should reserve expansion gaps due to temperature changes.
3. Scratch resistance
Before using acrylic sheets, do not remove the protective film or outer packaging film. Otherwise, dust and dirt will adhere to the surface due to static electricity. The protective film can prevent the sheet from wear and scratches.
Please use a forklift during loading and unloading to avoid secondary scratches caused by dragging of the acylic sheets. If dragging is necessary, and there is splicing protective paper, those products must be dragged in the splicing direction to prevent the protective paper from curling and falling off.
The hardness of the acrylic sheet surface is equivalent to that of aluminum. If there is no special treatment or hardener, be careful to avoid scratching the surface when using it.
There should be no small hard objects between the sheets when storing. Otherwise, the surface of the acrylic sheet will be scratched. If so, it can be restored by polishing.
4. Corrosion resistance
Acrylic is prone to cracking when exposed to paint or organic solvents. It is forbidden to store it together with them during transportation or storage. And acrylic sheets must not be exposed to organic solvents.
When cleaning acrylic sheet, you only need to use 1% soapy water and a soft cotton cloth. Do not use hard things or dry wipes. Otherwise, the acrylic surface will be easily scratched.
5. Fire prevention
Acrylic sheets are flammable. They should be stored away from flammable things or sources of fire.
6. Safety protection
Acrylic is hard material. Be careful not to get hurt by its sharp edges or by flying chips during processing. Please wear appropriate protective equipment.
7. Protective paper / sponge / soft cloth
Generally speaking, the surface of acrylic sheets should be wrapped with sponge or soft cloth to avoid the bumps during long-distance transportation and damage to the internal sheets.
When peeling off the kraft paper packaging, push the paper in the opposite direction close to 180°, and peel it off slowly. In winter, due to the cold weather, it is difficult to peel off. When doing this, you can use a hair dryer to heat it, and peel it off slowly. Acrylic sheets with kraft paper packaging should not be stored for more than six months. Otherwise, it will be difficult to peel off the kraft paper.
It is not recommended to remove protective film during transportation. The film can ensure that the quality and glossiness of acrylic sheet.
To avoid unnecessary losses during transportation, it is important to fix and cushion the items. It is generally recommended to transport them in an upright position. The vehicle should also be kept stable and at a slow speed.
